The Cedar Ridge’s Men Lacrosse team went 10-8 overall this season and went 4-2 in their conference. Cedar Ridge finished third in the conference. Cardinal Gibbons is first in the conference with an undefeated record of 6-0, Chapel Hill finished second at 5-1. Shemar Miles, a Sophomore who plays long stick middie said “being third in the conference is great deal being in the hardest conference in our state.” The team advanced through the state playoffs with 3 wins against teams from the eastern half of the state. On May 19, the Men’s Lacrosse team played Cardinal Gibbons in the Eastern Regional Final, but fell 19-5.Coach Kavanaugh, Cedar Ridge’s Head Lacrosse Coach said “I thought the team really gelled the last few weeks of the season and that paid off when we reached states. The experience of travelling for three hours for three straight games helped us to focus. We had a goal to go as far as we could before we matched up with Gibbons and we met that.” This is the farthest Cedar Ridge Lacrosse has ever advanced in the playoffs. Cedar Ridge had six individuals from the track team that made it to states: Kacia Vines, Chris McKoy, Jeremy Cates, Jonathan Hall, Dana Davis and Rebecca Felicelli. Kacia Vines won the girl’s long jump. Mckoy placed fifth in the state for the men's long jump. Jeremy Cates placed 9th in the state at discus. John Hall went 14th in the 110m high hurdles and Rebecca went 13th in the 300 hurdles. Dana Davis finished 16th overall in pole vault. The Women’s Softball team played their last game of the season on May 6, 2015. The Lady Wolves lost 4-3 against Orange. Despite the loss, the women’s softball team went 10-8 overall and went 7-7 in the Conference. The Men’s Baseball Team also played their last game of the season on May 6, 2015. They lost 4-1 to Orange. The team went 11-11 Overall and 6-8 Conference. Coach Casey said that the Golf team struggled a lot this year but finished 5th in the conference. The bright spot for the team was sophomore Matthew Durham who qualified for regionals as an individual. He played very well at regionals and barely missed the state championship by 4 strokes. The Women's Soccer team played Orange on May 6, 2015 for their final game of the season. Orange beat Cedar Ridge 4-1. They went 7-12 overall and 6-8 in the Conference. As March Madness comes to an end, the question of who will reach the final four has been a hot topic in the basketball world. Now that Bracketology is underway, here are a couple of teams in the Men’s and Women’s Tourney that could make it to the Final Four. Check Back in April for final results. According to ESPN, Kentucky is favored to win it all. The Kentucky Wildcats are on an undefeated streak (35-0) and looking forward to becoming the first team since the 1976 Indiana team to win a National Championship undefeated. “I think our rifle team is also undefeated” said Coach John Calipari when asked about being the only team undefeated in the Top 20 of College Basketball . The Kentucky Wildcats consist of two teams that are called the Blue-White Platoons. The Blue Platoon includes: Andrew Harrison, Aaron Harrison, Willie Cauley-Stein, Trey Lyles, Karl Towns and Derek Willis. The White Platoon includes: Tyler Ulis, Devin Booker, Alex Poythress, Marcus Lee, Dakari Johnson and Dominique Hawkins. Kentucky is ranked number one in college basketball and picked unanimously as a number one seed in the tournament. Also according to ESPN, Notre Dame is an underdog in the tourney. The Fighting Irish have gone 29-5 this season and have been selected as a number three seed in the tournament. Notre Dame beat UNC 90-82 in the ACC title on March 14 at the Greensboro Coliseum. The top performer of the game was Senior Guard Jerian Grant. He put up 24 points and 10 assists against UNC. In the Women’s tournament, UConn is reported to be a favorite to win the Women’s NCAA Championship by ESPN. UConn has gone 32-1 this season. On March 9 in the Mohegan Sun Arena, the UConn Huskies beat South Florida Bulls for a second straight ACC title. The final score was 84-70. The top performer was Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, she put up 20 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assist and 3 steals against South Florida. The Princeton Tigers are on an undefeated streak with the record of 30-0. The Tigers beat Pennsylvania Quakers 55-42 on March 10 in the Palestra. After the win, they were presented the Ivy League Championship Trophy. Alex Wheatley earned the title Player of the Game, scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assist, 2 steals and 4 blocks. coach spotlightBy John Williams (Staff Sports Writer)
This is Jamie Athas’s first year as teacher and coach here at Cedar Ridge, and he said that he already feels at home; “I love it, we have a very good student body and I enjoy interacting with the students.” This year, Athas will be the Head Coach of the Boys Baseball team. His goal is to develop player fundamentals by having his team work efficiently together. Most of all,” I want my players to enjoy the game” said Athas. Coach Athas previously worked as UNCG’s baseball coach.

The Cedar Ridge Red Wolves boys basketball team played cross town rivals Orange High Panthers on January 20. The game tied 61-61. As the clocked ticked into overtime, Junior Peyton Pappas made a layup to win the game with a final score of 63-61. Additionally, Marquez Hunter was named player of the game with 17 points. On Feb. 3 Peyton Pappas reached 1000 career points, Pappas is the first Cedar Ridge athlete to do so. The Cedar Ridge Swim team participated in the Big Eight-3A Conference Meet on January 27. State Regionals will take place on Friday and Saturday February 6-7. The Winter Track team went to Eastern Alamance on January 27 for their last meet of the season. Cedar Ridge’s Women's team went sixth overall and the Men went third overall. Individual winners were Cammie Albert in the 500 Meter Run with a final time of 1:32.35. Dana Davis in Girls Pole Vault, Chris Mckoy in Boys Long Jump with 18-06 and Jeremy Cates in Boys Shot Put with 40-05. The Cedar Ridge Girl’s Basketball team lost to the Orange High Panthers 52-36 on January 20th. Cedar Ridge’s wrestling team won it’s Senior night match against J.F. Webb January 28th. |

On Sunday January 16, after the AFC Championship game, It was reported that 11 of 12 balls were deflated during the Patriots vs. Colts game. The New England Patriots starting quarterback, Tom Brady, was asked whether he told the ball boy to deflate the footballs after the officials pregame inspection. "No, I didn't. And I haven't. And I never will." said Brady. "I pick 24 balls, that's what I pick. Whatever happened after I did it, and whatever the situation was where they measured them, I have no idea about any of those facts.”The Patriots went on to the Superbowl and on Feb. 1st beat the Seahawks 28-24. With this victory,Tom Brady will be joining NFL Hall of Fame inductees Joe Montana and Terry Bradshaw by winning four Super Bowl rings.
